The building is the tallest element of the wider Merchant Square masterplan and has a sleek, curved form with vertical structural fins clad in white porcelain, a midnight blue ceramic rainscreen and a distinctive crown-like peak. The building comprises of a boutique hotel with private residential accommodation above and a publicly accessible double-height skybar and terrace at its summit. The building commands impressive views across Westminster and wider London. 1 Merchant Square is the only site in Westminster’s Unitary Development Policy (UDP) designated for a tall building and as a result is designed as a sentinel rather than part of a cluster of tall buildings.
