Over the last 24 years I have had the pleasure of working alongside the fabulous John Ball, our journey started together at Foster + Partners in 1992. When he told me a few months back that he had had enough of the commute on South West Trains it was a sad – but understandable – decision.
John’s achievements during the time that I have known him are considerable. We have worked together on projects such as the Gherkin, Hong Kong Airport, Park House, Merchant Square, 1 New Street Square and so many others it's hard to recall them all.
More recently here at RPP, John was a great motivator for people to be and do better, the father of technology wisdom, and the ‘go-to’ guy to help anyone in the studio. John has always had time for everyone, and would stop at nothing to overcome any problem. His belief for efficiency has always motivated a drive for better work flows and technology, which was a vehicle to allow designers to ‘spend more time designing’.
Last Friday evening, along with some good friends, we raised a glass or two or three... to toast John on his way. As he and Noreen move into the next chapter of their lives (he's refused me to call it 'retirement'..), which I’m told will include travel and singing all over the world with a fair few games of golf in-between, we patiently await postcards and hearing about the strokes of genius he comes across as he still exercises his mind on BIM - albeit probably from a beach!
Thank you for everything.
