We are delighted to announce that Castlewood House and Medius House have been granted planning permission by Camden's Planning Committee.
The proposals represent an exciting opportunity to re-develop a core part of New Oxford Street. They will result in a highly sustainable mixed use development, including 21,000 sqm of grade A office and retail, and 18 much needed new affordable homes.
The massing of the two buildings have been individually crafted to not only respond to their immediate neighbours, but to take account of their cumulative effect on the wider context. A rich mixture of materials responds to the diverse context present around all sides of the site.
Substantial improvements are also proposed to the public realm, including a new pedestrian arcade linking New Oxford Street to Central Saint Giles, and a new public plaza on Earnshaw Street. Ground floor retail will animate all four elevations of Castlewood, providing a mix of larger and smaller scale units.
The existing Medius House building, which is identified as a positive contributor within the Bloomsbury Conservation Area, will be converted from office to residential; retaining a retail presence at ground floor. A two storey contemporary mansard extension will help to deliver the borough with additional affordable homes.
