A drawing by Sarah, one of our architects, from The King's Library project has been selected as Building Magazine's Sketch of the Week.
The King's Library is the conversion of an Edwardian school in Chelsea into eighteen luxury apartments. The early concept sketch shows the existing assembly hall which will become a unique and open plan living space for one apartment.
In order to break down the volume into usable, domestic scaled spaces a contemporary 'pod' has been introduced. Connecting the upper and lower levels of the hall with a grand staircase the pod also provides a mezzanine reception space and a dining area below. Like a stage set the platforms are placed on a series of levels, allowing the resident and visitor to appreciate the sheer scale of the volume and the existing architecture from new and differing viewing positions.
The King's Library is currently on site; read more about it on our Projects page.
