Celebrating our Mentors
October 27, 2016

Over the course of the summer we were delighted to welcome - Adam, Eugene, Bukunmi, Gregory, Ricky, Sam and Tom - GCSE and A-Level students to take part in our Work Experience (WEX) programme, a week long line-up that includes exercises such as designing a house, model-making, ‘crits’ to develop presentation skills and a CV and interview workshop. We champion hosting students to give them insight into our world as creators and craftsman, recognising our responsibility in the education of aspiring designers.

Celebrating National Mentoring Day on 27th October, we want to extend a very big thank you to our ‘WEX Mentors’ - Conor, Rob, Annabel, Leonie, Matthew, Nadia and Miranda - who supported the students through their week, ensuring everyone felt at ease to demonstrate their creative flair. More thanks goes to our ‘WEX Ambassadors’ - Louisa and Lindsay - who designed the activities for students and ensured our Mentors were equipped with the information they needed. You were all thoughtful in your approach and inspiring to be around, thank you!

Our WEX programme is tailored for GCSE and A-Level students and if this if you and you’re eager and curious about our world, please apply via our Join Us page for 2017. Similarly, if you know of any students who may be interested, please do share information, we would be thrilled to receive your referral.

Feedback from summer students:

“The week honestly was amazing, I would very much like to come back. The experience got me to do things I wasn't used to like modelling and push myself out of my normal thinking box, to think bigger as an architect.”

“Everyone in the office was warm, nice, friendly and welcoming, and this made my week extremely enjoyable.”

“I feel I have gained a real understanding about the day to day life of an architect and the importance of teamwork.”

"I really enjoyed how I was given my own project to work on, and that I was allowed to develop it how I wanted, but also developing it as if it was a real life piece of work, like a real architect would.”

We look forward to working with future students to make more memories and thanks again to our wonderful team for all your efforts.
