Last weekend, ten members of our team braved high winds, rain and crashing waves to take part in the Little Britain Construction Challenge Cup in Cowes, Isle of Wight. For many of the team, this was their first introduction to sailing and being a crew member!
Over two days of racing in the Sunsail F40 category, the team became fond of the yacht they named ‘Geraldine’ and were dedicated crew, becoming quick movers when called to ‘taaaccckkkkk’ and only very nearly losing the spinnaker on the one occasion….
During the Gala Dinner held on Saturday evening, crew RPP hosted their own awards at the Yacht Club presented by our master of ceremonies, Niall. The award categories and deserving winners were:
'Ready about' Matthew
'Least likely sailor' Beata
'Master Grindr' Whitwell
'Best sailor' Gio
Following the dinner’s fun the team report to not knowing if it was their sea legs causing the rooms to sway in the evening or whether the dark & stormy’s were the reason, but regardless it encouraged energetic moves on the dance floor, with special mention for Beata leading the way.
Amongst the crew there was a broken rib, bruises all round and a few odd scrapes, but despite this, the team remained all smiles for the duration of the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Huge thanks go to the team at Little Britain for organising such a great event, to our skippers Ruaridh and Moxey and extended thanks to Simon and Michelle from Solent Events who were the perfect hosts.
